More than 5,000 people are employed in Cantabria in the environmental sector.

The report, picked up by Europa Press, specifies that 1,300 people in the region have a job related to the management and treatment of waste and 1063, with renewable energies.

In addition, 604 people are employed in treatment and wastewater purification, 438 in agriculture and livestock; and 463 in the public sector.

In addition, 266 jobs correspond to management of forest areas, 230 with environmental education and information; 219 environmental jobs in industry and services; 216 with environmental services companies, 198 with I + D + i Environmental and management of 109 with natural areas.

In relation to tourism, personnel employed in rural tourism in Cantabria increased by 121 percent in the period 2001-2008.

In Spain there are 531,000 green jobs, representing an increase of 235 percent since 1998 and represents 2.62 percent of the employed population.
